Market updates, award wins, promotions, podcast recordings and more…

What a week it has been at Lotus People… after a very few short weeks over Easter and Anzac Day, the market is as busy as ever.

Moving as quickly as the market…

Just last week alone we had two instances where organisations briefed us on permanent vacancies within their business, we had candidates in our network for them to interview immediately, first and second interviews happened on the same day (!) and an offer and contract was out before the end of the day. Eight-hour turnaround on permanent placements is definitely a record in my eyes – when everyone is saying you have to move quickly to attract the best talent, it’s very true!

The Great Resignation?

Back in January, we named this newsletter ‘The Great Resignation’. We’ve read, heard and researched a lot on this topic and we’re not entirely sure that it’s still fitting or if it has even hit Australia in full force. Yes, unemployment is at an all time low, job ads on SEEK are at an all time high, resignations are happening post-pandemic and most businesses are set for growth and are hiring, but it certainly doesn’t feel like there are resignations happening en masse.

Employers are looking after their employees, candidates are being selective and wary of the big salaries and big promises being thrown around by some companies and we can still see a measured and considered approach being taken by most job seekers. So perhaps it is no longer the most appropriate name, but it’s a moving beast and we are watching the market closely.

A SEEK award win!

In exciting news, Lotus People attended the SEEK Awards in Melbourne on Friday evening to celebrate our fabulous Principal Consultant, Eva Child, as a finalist for Consultant of the Year and we were blown away that our Director and Co-Founder, Sinead Connolly was named the Recruitment Leader of the Year category!!! It’s been a challenging few years navigating a pandemic as a leader in an industry which took a massive hit but we are so proud of how our team have showed up, leant on our values and went above and beyond in all we did as a response to the situation we found ourselves in. It means SO much to be recognised amongst stellar competition in the industry – a huge thanks to SEEK for an amazing night and to the team for all of their incredible support. Check out Sinead’s official thank you post here and a video of the moment she won, expressing her ABSOLUTE shock, here!

The imminent Lotus People podcast launch…

We are also very excited to share that we have started recording for our upcoming Lotus People podcast launch which will feature incredible leaders and entrepreneurs speaking in depth about their passion and purpose – watch this space, we started recording this week and we can’t wait to release this to the world soon!

Lotus People team growth!

With a manic market comes great opportunity! And we are delighted to have promoted a number of our internal team, recognising their absolute success in their roles. This and last week Eva Child and Kerri Olafsen have been promoted to Principal Consultants and we couldn’t be prouder of their attitude to work, their values-based approaches, their resilience during the pandemic and their contribution to the business and industry. After building out and refining our progression plans and training programs, we are in a position to hire more junior and senior candidates to keep up with growth in the team – reach out to me for a chat if a career at Lotus is of interest!

The employment market is continuously changing, so understanding the drivers and motivators influencing an employee or candidate is paramount for businesses striving to attract and retain talent. Recent findings from our market insights survey shed light on the shifting priorities shaping the current job market, showing results that vary from the top candidate drivers of 2023. According to our survey results, the top five drivers and motivators for employees and jobseekers in today's market are as follows: Compensation/Salary Package - 64.7% Company Culture and Values - 47% Professional Growth and Personal Development Opportunities - 45.1% Remote and Hybrid Working Policies - 39.8% Work-Life Balance - 38.7% What's particularly noteworthy is the subtle yet significant shift in priorities compared to the data from 2023. Whilst compensation has always been a key motivation for candidates, its importance has notably increased, emerging as the top priority for most employees and jobseekers. Equally significant is the emphasis placed on company culture and values, which have risen to become the second most influential factor driving employment decisions. This shift highlights the increasing importance individuals place on aligning with an organisation that shares their values, vision, and ethos. In today's competitive job market, candidates seek more than just a paycheck; they crave a sense of belonging and purpose within their workplace community. On the other hand, whilst remote and hybrid working policies remain important considerations, their ranking has slightly decreased compared to the previous year. This trend suggests that whilst flexibility in work arrangements remains desirable, it may no longer be the primary driving factor for many candidates, as we have long emerged from the days of pandemic. The findings from our market insights survey highlight a fundamental truth: the landscape of candidate and employee preferences is continually evolving. Employers must adapt their recruitment and retention strategies to align with these shifting priorities, placing greater emphasis on competitive compensation, fostering a positive company culture, and providing ample opportunities for professional growth and development. As businesses navigate the complexities of effective recruitment and employee management, understanding and responding to the evolving needs and desires of the market will be essential in attracting and retaining talent and fostering long-term organisational success. As we move forward in 2024, it's imperative for businesses to prioritise not only meeting but exceeding the expectations of their workforce, creating environments where individuals feel valued, supported, and empowered to thrive. By staying attuned to the evolving landscape of candidate drivers and motivators, organisations can position themselves as employers of choice in an increasingly competitive marketplace.
