Lotus People – The Best Advice We’ve Ever Received

By Eva Child, Candidate Manager, Permanent Recruitment

Throughout your life, you will receive advice relating to your career and social circumstances – some useful and some not. What you do with the advice you receive is up to you, but in some cases, it can prove to be invaluable. Amazon Executive Simoina Vasen, says her mother told her to not be afraid to ask for what you want. Vasen says ”[My Mum] always told me that I could create my own career path and that it didn’t need to fit neatly into a box”. Whether you have received advice from a colleague, mother, mentor or a friend, it can help change the course of your choices and the paths you take.

When providing advice, Bill Gates has suggested you should ‘surround yourself with people who challenge you, teach you, and push you to be your best self’. Having recently joined Lotus in October, I am learning and laughing at work every day and certainly have the Lotus team to thank for that!

With a view to starting the new year off on the right foot, I collated our teams’ most invaluable insights and they have shared the below wisdom that they still think of regularly;

  • Never stop learning – always be seeking new knowledge, learning a new skill or just reading

  • Worrying about something will not change the outcome

  • Work smarter not harder!

  • Your health is your wealth

  • The best job is the one in which you’re using the skills you enjoy

  • Don’t chase money. The greatest thing you can have from a role is job satisfaction. Choose your mental health and happiness over money every time.

  • Money is not a finite resource – spend it and enjoy it, you can always earn more!

  • Always be kind, you never know what someone is going through

  • If you act from a place of abundance; practice gratitude in your day to day versus scarcity. It’s about the energy you put into your goal and viewing your outcomes positively, regardless of how close the outcome is to the initial target.

Some great pearls of wisdom to set your year off right!

A diverse and inclusive workplace isn’t just a nice-to-have—it’s essential for fostering a positive and productive environment, especially in the membership bodies and associations sector, where strong values are a key driver of operations.
