As a leader, she prioritises balance, culture, learning and development as well as adding value to clients, candidates and her team. In 2021, Sinead was recognised as Recruitment Leader of the Year by SEEK, and her leadership has led Lotus People to continued success and growth.

The Inside Scoop

  • On Hybrid Working

Lotus People are a forward-thinking and flexibly minded business. Our two anchor days where we expect everyone to be in the office are Tuesday and Thursday.

Some of the team choose to come in on other days and this is personal preference. When you are starting off, we see the value in more face to face time, so we will ask that you spend more time coming into the office and this will be decided with your manager.

  • On Lunch Breaks

    • Standard lunch hours are between 12pm and 2pm. We encourage you to leave the office/ house and get some fresh air and many of the team use their hour lunch to exercise or go to the gym which we fully support and encourage.

    • It is important that we get back to candidates and clients ASAP, please be sure to call back immediately if you miss any calls during lunch/ whilst in a meeting.

  • On Communication

We have won number one in the country for Candidate Experience based on survey results for four years in a row, and often rank in the top 5 for Client Experience.

You’ll learn more about our experience levels in training, but we ask that you return every candidates’ call/ email/ LinkedIn message within 24 hours. We use a cloud based phone system called VXT, and expense up to $80 on your mobile phone bill each month to cover data costs. We also aim for inbox to zero every day to ensure that no candidate or client email gets missed and in order to stay organised and on top of our day!

Sometimes this will be hard, but we always work towards that. Every client/ candidate email tracks on our database so there is no need to file/ keep emails.

  • On Dress Codes

    Flexible dress policy

We believe in dressing for your day. If you are at your desk all day sourcing for a role, we want you to be comfortable! We provide some hanging space so you can keep a couple of ‘corporate’ outfits in the office in case you need them. We believe in presenting well to clients and candidates, but we are not a corporate agency by any means.

You will most likely be meeting candidates daily so it is important to be smartly presented for zoom meetings. For zoom meetings, it is totally fine to be dressed down from the waist down (hello lululemon leggings), but always smartly dressed in front of clients and candidates. Trainers, jeans and Lotus branded tees and jumpers are a common feature in the office!

  • On Annual Leave and Sick Leaves

We offer 25 days of paid annual leave which is accrued each month.

    • We ask that you do not book in leave within your first 3 months as this time is integral to getting you up and running. All leave requests must be approved by your manager, and submitted to our accounts team via Xero. Please check Xero to see if you have enough days accrued before taking leave, this avoids negative leave and unpaid leave scenarios.

    • We try to accommodate everyone’s leave requests, however, given we are a small business and need to ensure we have enough staff in the office at all times, your manager may ask you to be flexible with your leave dates so don’t book a holiday or flights without receiving approval first.

    • Sick leave – If you are feeling unwell, we encourage you to stay home and rest up. We ask that you call your manager before 8am if you won’t be in the office, in order to provide a handover for your day and advise what needs to be covered, and please give an update before 5pm on how you’re feeling for the next day so we can plan ahead. If you call in sick for a number of days, we may request a doctor’s certificate.

    • Christmas break – We have no official shut down period over Christmas and Christmas is generally the quietest time of year in recruitment so it is a great time to take leave and enjoy the summer! In saying that, we will need some presence online/ in the office to respond to any clients/ candidates in this time, so please speak to your manager before making plans.

    • We have a full Annual Leave Policy document which we will share with you in your onboarding so you are across the finer details
  • On Lotus Global

    • Since COVID, we introduced our Lotus Global policy. The policy allows staff to work remotely for 4 weeks year, in addition to any annual leave

    • We ask that you do not avail of Lotus Global within your first 6 months as you get settled and are in your training phase

    • Lotus Global requires that you are still available to work our standard hours of 8.30am - 5pm (the team have worked from New Zealand, Bali, Thailand and all over Australia)

    • We have a full Lotus Global Policy document which we will share with you in your onboarding so you are across the finer details of this too

Financial Road Map

  • On Targets and Tracking

    • As a sales business, you’ll be set weekly and quarterly targets, financial and/ or activity based depending on your role. These targets are designed to allow you to progress in your role and in your career. To begin, you will follow a detailed 30,60,90 day plan to set you up for success. We also conduct weekly 121s and quarterly reviews and use these as an opportunity to track progress, measure success and provide feedback.

    • At Lotus, if you are in a consultant or associate consultant role, we focus on outcomes and results so we won’t be monitoring your call times or micro managing you – we conduct these meetings and reviews to ensure that we are giving you a strong foundation to succeed through training, guidance and support.

    • Team Incentives – As a sales business, we like to celebrate the wins and successes. Each quarter, we have a tiered target - hitting target, a stretch target and a super stretch target. Rather than having a “high billers club”, when we hit targets, every team member is involved. These incentives vary depending on results but in the past we have had delicious fine dining meals out, many boats out on the harbour, spa days, wellness retreats, trips to the Hunter Valley, Byron Bay, ski trips to New Zealand or Thredbo, and other trips to Hobart, Hamilton Island, Daydream Island & Port Douglas! We find that they are amazing bonding opportunities for the wider team.

  • On Where We’re Based

Sydney is our main HQ but we also set up a Brisbane Office in February 2023 which is led by Director, Sophie Thomas and has a growing team.

We also have team members based out of Townsville in QLD, Adelaide and the Phillipines.

Lana, our Operations Manager relocated to Townsville in 2018, and our Marketing Executive, Bria, and Administration Assistant, Elaine, are both based out of the Philippines.

We have strong systems in place to support remote work but we do love when we can all be together to celebrate/ connect.

  • On Technology

We have an industry leading technology stack which drives efficiencies and minimises time spent on laborious tasks, freeing our team up to do higher impact work.

We have a smart and intuitive CRM in Jobadder, use automation software called ROI AI, as well as software for our podcasts, our marketing and socials, video and content creation and training, as well as for tracking candidate experience.

We also have our Systems and Marketing Specialist, Sarah Lunders, whose role focuses on enhancing sales and marketing effectiveness, she optimises data analytics and systems. Sarah plays a key role in monitoring user engagement, facilitating team training, and collaborating with leadership for continuous improvement and revenue growth.

You will be trained on all of this in time, but we rely on strong data integrity in our database to allow all systems to work together well so it’s a good idea to get in the habit of tracking everything correctly from day one - if it’s not on the database, it didn’t happen!

  • On Pay and Salary

Your salary will be paid monthly into your nominated bank account, by the 28th day of every month, normally on or before the 26th (pending weekends). Someone in the accounts team will ask you to provide your bank and super details to accounts in your first week.

  • On Commission Structure

    • Depending on your role, you may be eligible for commission or bonus which is paid quarterly. If you are eligible, you will start earning commission as soon as you start with us. Commission varies depending on your role - please refer to your contract for more information here.

    • Commission is paid to a consultant once Lotus has received the fee from the client. Commission is calculated quarterly and paid in the following month’s pay-run. I.e. You will receive your commission for January – March quarter in the April pay-run. If a client hasn’t paid an invoice in time for the pay-run, you will receive this remaining portion of your commission the following pay-run. Commission and bonuses include your superannuation payment.

  • On Expenses

    • If you are out and about meeting with candidates and clients, Lotus will reimburse you for your work-related expenses; coffees, lunches etc. You are to enter your expenses into Xero App which is submitted to accounts and paid monthly. We tend to use public transport over Uber to keep costs down when travelling to face to face meetings.

    • Common expenses you can claim;

    - Ubers/ taxis to and from client meetings (only if other public transport methods are not an option)

    - Mobile phone bill – up to $80 / month

    - Coffee/ lunch for yourself and your clients/ candidates

    • Lotus has access to a GoGet account for employees with an Australian driver’s license. Please consult your manager for approval, and then ask Lana to set you up on the GoGet account if you think you will avail of this.

A diverse and inclusive workplace isn’t just a nice-to-have—it’s essential for fostering a positive and productive environment, especially in the membership bodies and associations sector, where strong values are a key driver of operations. While large corporations may have greater resources to implement extensive diversity strategies, membership organisations, often smaller in size and resource-limited, can still make a significant impact through focused, intentional steps. Prioritising diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) within your organisation can lead to increased engagement, more innovative problem-solving, and a stronger sense of community within your team and association. By embracing these principles, your organisation can create a more welcoming environment for all employees and members. But how can associations create meaningful change with limited resources?
